How To Choose The Right Helium Miner
When choosing your Helium Miner, there are many different options to choose from. It is very important to think about your Helium Hotspot setup before you get a Helium Miner.
A Helium Hotspot can have different cable connectors, power supply and other specs like Filter Technology.
On this page, you can find all the information you need about the different Helium Miners and their pros and cons.

How Does A Helium Miner Work?
A Helium Miner is a small device you place in your home or office. You can setup a Helium Hotspot in minutes, simply power the Hotspot & connect to the internet to start earning.
The Helium Hotspot earns HNT for building and securing network infrastructure and transferring data. The amount of HNT distributed to the Helium Hotspots depends on the type of “work” they perform, based on the value to the network. This validation of network contribution is accomplished by a revolutionary new Work Algorithm called Proof-of-Coverage (PoC).
To participate in PoC, Hotspots receive instructions (or ‘challenges’) from Validators to transmit payloads to any nearby Hotspots to witness and verify. These challenges are also known as ‘beacons’. Hotspots without neighbors earn less as they can only mine HNT for data transfer and are unable to have their beacons verified.
1. PROOF-OF-COVERAGE: 5.02%
Hotspots earn a share of HNT for participating in Proof-of-Coverage and validating their peer’s wireless coverage. The amount each Hotspot earns depends on how often it is directly involved in Proof-of-Coverage activity.
2. WITNESSING: 20.08%
Hotspots that monitor and report Proof-of-Coverage activity (beacons) of other Hotspots receive a portion of HNT depending on how much activity they’ve witnessed, and the reward scaling of the Challengee.
3. NETWORK DATA TRANSFER: 35%
Hotspots earn a share of HNT for participating in Proof-of-Coverage and validating their peer’s wireless coverage. The amount each Hotspot earns depends on how often it is directly involved in Proof-of-Coverage activity.
Helium Hotspot Type: Indoor Or Outdoor?
The first and most important choice is the type of your Helium Miner. We have 2 types of Hotspots: Indoor Hotspots & Outdoor Hotspots.
When mining Helium, the Antenna height and placement is very important for your earnings. Every placement has its pros and cons, this is why we have set every situation down below.

Indoor Miner & Indoor Antenna
When you place the Hotspot and Antenna indoors, it is very easy to place. But, you will lose a lot of signal strength, the walls and structure of the building will block them.

Indoor Miner & Outdoor Antenna
When you place the Hotspot indoors and the Antenna outdoors, your antenna will receive more signals, but you will most likely have a lot more cable length, which will create a signal loss.

Outdoor Miner & Outdoor Antenna
When you decide to place both the Hotspot and the Antenna outside, you will not have any loss from walls and connections. But installation will be harder & you’ll need to provide power to the Hotspot.
As you can see every installation type has its own pros and cons. Still, we recommend choosing the full outdoor placement. When you choose this installation you will avoid any signal losses by walls or cable and maximimize your Helium Hotspots Income.
But how do you power the Helium Hotspot? Quite simply, if you buy the right Hotspot, you can power it through POE, which means Power Over Ethernet. When your Hotspot accepts PoE you only have to bring 1 Ethernet Cable outside.
What if I use an Indoor Hotspot?
Of course, we understand that a full-outdoor install is not always possible.
But, if you want to choose another installation type, you will automatically create a signal loss in your system.
When in this situation we strongly recommend adding a FLARM Booster or Helium Amplifier to your Helium Miner. When you do this you will compensate for the signal loss and even increase your earnings.
Helium Hotspot Brands: What Are Your Options?
There are a lot of different Helium Hotspot manufacturers that have developed their own Helium miner. Every brand has been approved by the Helium Community.
Some brands like Bobcat and SenseCap have Indoor Hotspots, others like Nebra and Pisces have both Indoor & Outdoor Hotspots.
When you want to choose a brand for your Helium Miner we advise you to look at the placement location above first. In the bar below you can find the different brands. Click on a brand to visit their website!
